Hearts/hartjes

These hearts were all made by my friend Jeannette who is as addicted to old jewelry and fabric as I am. We cann't help ourselves when we see old clothes and old curtains or other fancy projects at a flea market .... when they are made of just the right fabric we have to buy them and torn them apart....lots of antique blouses did die under our hands....not to mention the antique jewelry and christmas ornaments...let's call it "recycling"...
For this one she had to use old jewelry from her grandmother..
The fabric on which I have photographed the hearts is from Laura Ashley...old curtains...

This is an old picture of the parents of her mother...

Old jewelry...ready to be recycled...

walking in a winter wonderland....

Today: Not a post about decorating inside the house but a post about all the beautiful things we get for free from nature and from our past. I have to share these pictures with you, they were all taken on January 9. I went for a walk in a village very much near the village where I live, in Nieuw-Beijerland.

This corn mill is called "De Swaen", which means "the Swan", because it had been white for a long time. It dates from 1704 and was rebuilt after a fire in 1930.

It is located in a nature reserve along a riverside.

And here is the fabulous part of the story of "De Swaen". The mill was about to collapse but in 1987 a rich man bought it and gave it back it's old beauty, glory and style.

the colors of the winter and the colors of the past

For this post I combined the colors of the winter and the colors of the past. The past: Old French ornaments, old bottles with dust on them like powdersnow and the beautiful seacorals that make you long for the summer.

The hairy picture is of a the pony, almost frozen but still running against the winterwind.

Daar gaan we weer/ Here we go again

The heart in the middle is my favourite: I stitched a part of a postcard with The queen mother Juliana on it.

Here they are laying on an antique English quilt made of pure silk.

We started this year very cold with extreme low temperatures so I would like to stay in the cold colours like white and grey. The hearts I made from old linen were all removed from our Christmas tree and my dear husband has thrown the tree in the back garden. In the beginning of January he gets a little bit aggressive when Christmas ornaments are still in our livingroom. I was still singing "holy night and silent night" but it did not make sence... he started throwing all the christmasballs and other ornaments in the boxes to be stored in the attic for a year to come. I had to find a new purpose for the hearts so I made garlands of them...as you can see I've hung one in the cupboard with tree hearts.

eerste dag in de tuin 2009/first day in my garden 2009

This morning I've spent a few hours in my garden, not only outside enjoying the beautiful pictures but also inside the shed to drink coffee and have a chat with my neighbours. In te mosaic you'll see: lots of plants, the owl sitting in his nest all year, the pieces of wood ready for the fireplace, the paintings that hang on the walls showing Dutch winter scenes, an ax in a hat block, white cabbage ready to be taken home, frozen ice in a pot etc.

And this is where I live....as I leave our house for a walk these are the things I will find on my way...We live in a big village (Oud-Beijerland, Zuid-Holland), some people prefer calling it a small city. The fields around it are so beautiful.....
